Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program and the Art Room have an important role here at Solway. Not only is it a resource centre for teachers but it is a learning centre for the students to experiment with the different media, try different methods of art development, learn about other artists- both past and present-, and, above all, ENJOY these experiences.

Solway has a most vibrant Visual Arts program where all the students experience the many aspects of creative endeavours. Painting and drawing are, of course, very important but the students become involved in clay- work, puppetry, mask-making, wire-work, sculpture, printmaking and woodwork.

The Art Room is opened on Tuesday lunchtimes for Art Extension classes for the Years 3 to 6 students and, again, on Wednesday lunchtimes for Open Art when all students (Prep to 6) can come to do an art activity if they so desire.

All in all, the Art Room is a very popular place here at Solway.

Picasso Faces

Students in Year 3 and 4 drew profiles then completed their faces with a frontal view. We mixed watercolours and applied the new colours to our work. We hope you like them.

Modigliani Artwork

Students in Year 5 and 6 explored the artwork of Modigliani, noticing the way he distorted proportions in his portraits. We then created our own portraits using this technique and using either oil or soft pastels to blend colours and create tone in our work.
